A Letter from Captain Stingblade

Before we introduce what’s coming next for Stingblade, I wanted to share a quick note about how it all started.

When I first began thinking about Stingblade, I was simply trying to solve a problem that had frustrated me for years. I’ve spent a lot of time in the sea, and over the years I was stung by jellyfish more times than I care to remember. Anyone who has experienced it will know it’s not just unpleasant. It can be extremely painful and sometimes quite frightening when you’re far from shore.

Like most people, I followed the traditional advice. Vinegar. Scraping the skin with whatever was nearby. Rubbing the area and hoping it would improve. None of it really solved the problem. In fact, it often made things worse and sometimes left me with secondary injuries.

Eventually I realised that the real issue wasn’t just the sting itself, it was the microscopic barbs left behind on the skin. Those barbs contain the venom, and if they remain there, they continue to cause irritation and pain.

The moment that began the Stingblade journey…

In 2018, during a holiday swim, I was stung by jellyfish. During this incident, I shaved the affected area using disposable razors to remove the barbs. That incident led to the idea behind Stingblade.

Instead of trying to treat the sting while the barbs were still embedded in the skin, I wanted a simple way to remove them properly and quickly. Something small, reliable and easy to use by the sea and during the swim.

Turning that idea into a real product took time. From the first concept to what you see today took several years. But once we committed to building it, the development process itself took over a year. The biggest challenge was making something that worked effectively but was still simple enough for anyone to use in the moment they needed it.

Built for ocean lovers and those jellyfish stings

Stingblade is for people who love the water; swimmers, surfers, sailors, beachgoers, or anyone who spends time by the sea. Jellyfish stings are incredibly common worldwide, yet most people still rely on outdated advice when they happen.

My hope is that Stingblade becomes the product people instinctively reach for when a jellyfish sting occurs. It can be easily purchased from our store or Amazon. A simple tool that helps remove the barbs quickly, that you can carry on the go and lets you get back to enjoying the water.

If it helps even a few people feel more confident about being in the sea again, then all the work that went into creating it will have been worth it.

Thank you for being part of the journey.
